The Montana Department of Revenue administers approximately 40 state taxes, property appraisals, liquor laws, and unclaimed property for the state of Montana.
The Business and Income Taxes Division (BIT) manages a variety of Montana tax types that include business, individual, and natural resources.
BIT is comprised of two bureaus (Income and Withholding Taxes and Business Taxes and Valuation), that perform audits, verify compliance with Montana laws for all taxes administered by the division, and issues appraisals and assessments of centrally assessed property.

Job Overview: This position resides in the Business & Income Taxes Division of Department of Revenue.
The Business and Income Tax Division ensures secure handling of taxpayer information and data.
BIT’s auditing technicians perform a variety of duties assigned by management.
Duties include conducting simple examinations of various types of tax returns, adjusting tax returns, conducting research, communicating internally and externally, and participating in the appeal process.
Auditing technicians also provide support for other unit operations and complex examination activities.
The position does not supervise other staff.
The Taxpayer Accounting Unit is looking for a motivated, self-driven individual to join our team.
This unit, which is comprised of 17 teammates, is responsible for the initial review of various return groups, supplemental forms, tax credits, software updates and annual internal operations.
