JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): Supervision of Preschool ages 2-5 years old.
Under general supervision, and according to specific procedures, the teacher is responsible for planning and executing classroom activities, assisting in the maintenance of a safe, healthy and stimulating classroom environment, provide constant supervision of children at all times including planning time, outside play, mealtime, nap time and field trips.
Assists in the monitoring and training of Assistant Teacher (ECAT), trainees and support staff.
Maintains sensitivity to children’s individuality and responds to those needs appropriately and quickly by guiding the behavior of children in positive, effective ways.
Maintains the highest level of professionalism at all times.
Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization and choice-making; ask open-ended questions and follow-up questions to promote further learning and thinking.
Follow a consistent schedule which includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals and effective transitions between activities.
Prepare the classroom environment and materials to support developmentally appropriate curriculum plans and learning experiences.
Assess individual and group needs, attending to specific interests, strengths and concerns.
Develop a collaborative approach that benefits all children in the classroom.
Maintain regular parent/teacher conferences for the purpose of assessment and support, and to share information on classroom progress and educational strategies to future children’s development.
Monitor and report child abuse.
Attend and participate in trainings and appropriate professional development activities.
Attend and participate in meetings.
Engage in ongoing self-assessment about job performance.
Daily cleaning and sanitizing of your own classroom and shared responsibility of bathroom cleaning.
Follow State Childcare Licensing Regulations, Health Department and Fire Marshal Standards.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE : Demonstrates knowledge and practical application of principles of childhood growth and development.
Minimum 2 years experience in a licensed childcare facility.
Ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities and adapt to the individual needs of children.
Significant decision and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, families and community resources.
Ability to maintain respectful relations and communication with staff, families, children and community.
Ability to supervise children and ensure a safe environment.
Ability to respond to events happening at all times in classroom, outdoor play areas and on field trips.
EDUCATION : 2 years’ experience in a licensed childcare facility and 60 hours of approved training through the Montana Practitioner Registry required.
Child Development Associate Certificate or associate degree in early childhood preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY : American Heart Association; Heart Saver CPR and First Aid certification required to be completed in first 30 days of employment and to be kept current thereafter.
Current on the Montana Early Childhood Project: Practitioner Registry within 15 days of hire.
Infant Safety Essentials within 30 days and Health and Safety Required Professional Development within 90 days of hire.
Complete mandatory 16-hour annual training and keep current all St.
Peter’s Health and State Licensing required immunizations.
