The Montana State Library (MSL) is seeking applications for a Statewide Library Consultant.
This is a full time, permanent position that is eligible for all applicable state benefits and retirement.
The MSL agency office is located in Helena and remote work locations within the state of Montana may be considered for this position.
The Statewide Library Consultant is responsible for assisting the Montana library community in building their capacity to better serve their community members.
This position provides consultation, continuing education, and facilitation on operations, management, governance, and other services to all types of libraries.
The incumbent will plan, implement, and evaluate programs for the improvement of library and information services statewide.
We are seeking an individual who is a collaborative self-starter with a passion to assist libraries and their governing boards through training, problem solving, and advising.
Primary Responsibilities: Consulting: Consult with and provide problem-solving assistance to library administrators, governing boards, and staff on matters related to library plans, management, governance, services, funding, and cooperative activities.
· Advising library staff and boards on the creation and implementation of library policies, budgets, programs, and services.
· Implementing and evaluating statewide plans and programs.
· Coordinating and facilitating public meetings.
· Advising on laws related to library elections, operations, and related legal issues.
· Conducting site visits to libraries within the state of Montana.
· Identifying and communicating library trends to library directors, boards, and local government leaders.
Continuing Education: Develop, implement, and evaluate the continuing education needs of librarians and library board members.
· Planning, developing, and presenting workshops for adult learners.
· Collaborating with MSL’s Continuing Education Coordinator.
· Evaluating courses and workshops to assess achievement of learning outcomes.
Library Development Programs: Participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating statewide plans, programs, and projects for improvement for library and information services.
· Compiling, reviewing, and summarizing information about programs and projects.
· Facilitating meetings with consultants, stakeholders, vendors, library staff, or other state agency personnel.
· Project management of state-funded projects involving outside contractors and local libraries.
· Coordinating with local government organizations and libraries to create training, resources, and partnerships that are mutually beneficial.
· Representing the interests and needs of Montana libraries on local, regional, and national task forces and organizations.
Minimum Qualifications: Education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in Library Science or Library Information Science, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal applicant will have two years of job-related work experience in these areas: · Identifying legal issues affecting governance of libraries.
· Providing guidance to groups of librarians in administration and library services.
· Experience with facilitation, conflict resolution, and working with boards.
· Planning, developing, presenting, and coordinating adult education programs.
