Lawyer - (23143024) The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Office of Legal Affairs.
This position is responsible for providing legal support to and representation for the Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS).
There are two attorney levels in the DPHHS Office of Legal Affairs: Lawyer 1 and Lawyer 2.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity Knowledge of legal analysis principles, practices, and theories.
Knowledge of legal research methods and techniques, including use of LEXIS, Westlaw, and the internet.
Ability to analyze difficult legal problems and synthesize a course of action.
Ability to maintain a positive, professional, and effective working relationships.
Ability to develop a level of confidence between themselves and legal clients.
Advanced skill in written and oral communication.
Ability to use a personal computer, various software programs, and standard office equipment necessary to perform the functions of the position.
Meet minimum qualifications: Lawyer 1: Juris Doctorate (J.
D.
) from an accredited law school.
Three years of legal experience.
Admission to practice law in Montana, or admission within one year from the date of hire.
Preferred: Knowledge of healthcare law or areas of law relevant to DPHHS programs.
Knowledge of the legislative process.
Knowledge of administrative review procedures, all aspects of the Montana Administrative Procedures Act (MAPA), and judicial review procedures.
Lawyer 2: Juris Doctorate (J.
D.
) from an accredited law school.
Five years of legal experience.
Admission to practice law in Montana, or admission within one year from the date of hire.
Knowledge of healthcare law or areas of law relevant to DPHHS programs.
Knowledge of the legislative process.
Preferred: Knowledge of administrative review procedures, all aspects of the Montana Administrative Procedures Act (MAPA), and judicial review procedures.

Additional Information This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana.
Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
This position may be eligible for a statutory 4% an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2024.
This position may be eligible for moving and relocation reimbursement.

Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules.
